Meet the naturalists behind our Creek Camps this year: Emily Roediger, Andria Cossolotto, Megan Lenss, Paige Brandenburg and Makayla Beik.
Emily Roediger – Naturalist
Emily Roediger is originally from Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with majors in Biology and Environmental Studies and minors in Geology and Music, and has an environmental education graduate certificate from Hamline University. She has over 4 years of experience with multiple environmental education organizations and has been a Naturalist at the Nature Center since 2016. Emily enjoys being outside whether she’s hiking and exploring new places, camping, playing tennis, bike riding or even just sitting!
Andria Cossolotto – Naturalist
Andria Cossolotto, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, came to Indian Creek Nature Center in May of 2016 having previously been a naturalist in western Iowa. As a staff Naturalist at ICNC, Andria leads school field trips and camps, helping to instill the love of nature in future generations. In her spare time, Andria works to help improve pollinator habitats and enjoys getting outdoors with her husband and two children whenever possible.
Megan Lenss – Summer Naturalist
Megan is going into her third year at the University of Iowa pursuing a B.S. in Geoscience. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 2015 with her family. In the future, she hopes to go to graduate school for Geoscience, travel the world, and become a published writer. Her favorite things are long runs, rock climbing, spending time in the back country, and her two dogs Otis and Winnifred. She is deeply passionate about land conservation and sustainable living.
Paige Brandenburg – Summer Naturalist
Paige Brandenburg grew up in Marion, Iowa. She has previously attended Kirkwood Community College and studied abroad in South Africa. Currently working toward an Environmental Planning degree, minor in Bioscience, and Sustainability Certificate at the University of Iowa. She joined in May 2019 as a summer naturalist intern. Paige enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, canoeing, playing volleyball, volunteering, and taking care of her vermicompost.
Makayla Beik – Summer Naturalist
Makayla, born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, loves camping, kayaking, spending time with family, and exploring the outdoors. She previously attended Kirkwood Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Northern Iowa where she is actively involved in the STEM Ambassador program and the Student Nature Society. As an intern she is excited to spread the knowledge of nature through Indian Creek Nature Center and hopes to see more young kids interact with their environment in a positive way.
