Char Pence reflects on the Barn’s past and ICNC’s future

50 Stories for 50 Years

is presented by New Leader Manufacturing

Char Pence has been part of Indian Creek Nature Center’s history since before it began. The Penningroth Barn was owned by her family in her youth and she spent many years playing and exploring in the barn and surrounding area. After “the Barn” became the home of the Nature Center in 1973, her family stayed connected.

Char and her son Tom have both served on the board and have frequently visited ICNC’s trails and programs over the years. Char became a lifetime member in 2003 and Tom did so in 2021.

Early in 2023, a few days shy of her 98th birthday, Char shared memories from her childhood at “the Barn” as well as her hopes for the future of Indian Creek Nature Center.
