Barn to Farm Bike Ride

Ride Local. Eat Local.

Pump up your bicycle tires and meet us at the Barn for a recreational bike ride to visit ICNC’s organic farm.

Barn to Farm Bike Ride will feature a 36-mile round-trip bike ride from ICNC’s original Barn headquarters to Etzel Sugar Grove Farm.

At the farm, riders will be treated to live music by Benj and Nicole Upchurch (of The Feralings) and a farm-fresh breakfast with locally-sourced ingredients including organic eggs from the farm before the return ride.

The bike ride is a 36-mile round trip that includes miles on dirt trails, city streets, paved trails, and rural gravel roads. The course will be marked with directional signs at key intersections to help riders navigate to the organic farm.

Riders will start at the Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd SE, Cedar Rapids) in groups of 20 riders. The beginning of the route will follow the Sac and Fox Trail to Prairie Park Fishery. From the fishery riders will go into town and meet up with the Cedar Valley Trail. The trail will take riders to E Otter Road where they will turn to go to Sugar Grove Farm (3706 St. Peters Road, Marion).

There will be a sag wagon available beginning at 11:15 AM for any riders who chose to opt out of the return ride.

Smiley’s Soup and Sandwiches will prepare a farm-fresh breakfast with ingredients from Etzel Sugar Grove Farm, which has been certified organic since 2021.

Organic eggs from the pasture-raised chicken flock will be the cornerstone of a nutritious, and hearty breakfast to fuel the return ride back to ICNC’s original Barn headquarters.

Breakfast will be available from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Nicole & Benj Upchurch, members of the Americana band The Feralings, will perform live at Etzel Sugar Grove Farm while riders sit down to enjoy a farm-fresh breakfast.

The Feralings have been said to be a “soaring take on bluegrass” and “always a delight” during their years performing across the Midwest.

Performance is set to begin at 9:45 AM.
