April 11, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM Explore what accessible birding looks like with Cat Fribley, Executive Director of the national nonprofit Birdability. Through a 45-minute presentation and accessible birding hike, birders can join the growing movement to make birding more accessible and inclusive.

Bird Banding

Get an up-close look at our feathered friends by joining ornithologist Dr. Neil Bernstein for bird banding programs. Drop in anytime to watch birds from the Nature Center property get netted, banded, and released. You can learn the banding process and see birds up close. Bird banding programs are free and open to all ages.

Join the bird experts from Raptology to meet some of their non-releasable raptors up close. Learn more about these amazing creatures and how we can all work to improve the environment to keep them safe and healthy. These events are free and open to the public. Bring your raptor questions!

Project FeederWatch

Project FeederWatch

Project FeederWatch is a winter-long citizen science survey of birds that collects data on broadscale movement of winter bird populations from across North America to help scientists find longterm trends in bird migratory habits. All are welcome to participate. No prior birding experience required.

This quiet place is a favorite spot for bird viewing, relaxing, and enjoying nature in all seasons.

Sneak a Peek at the Bird Blind

Constructed in 2024, the Esther Wilson Bird Blind offers trail users a chance to see birds up close as they visit the feeders at the blind. 

The bird blind is in the northwest corner of the Cedar Rapids Prairie, just east of the Blue Bridge.
