The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon\, but you’ll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, just in case of cloud cover.\nEncounters with wildlife are sure to occur! Child-led\, open-ended play encourages creativity\, builds confidence\, and helps children experience new textures and practice social skills. And the best part? The clean up will be taken care of for you!\nBring your kids in clothes that can get messy and let them explore and play! SUMMARY:Barn to Farm Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:Bike-riding nature lovers are invited to join us in our inaugural Barn to Farm Bike Ride. \nThis is a self-contained\, self-paced bike ride that will leave from the original ICNC Barn headquarters (6665 Otis Rd SE\, Cedar Rapids) at 8:00 am and travel to Etzel Sugar Grove Farm (3706 St. Peters Rd\, Marion). The route will use the Sac & Fox Trail along with the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. Riders will return to the Barn on the same route. The round trip is approximately 36 miles. SUMMARY:Bird Banding at the Barn
DESCRIPTION:Join ornithologist Dr. Neil Bernstein for a special bird banding program. Be our guest and drop in at Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd) anytime to watch Dr. Bernstein net\, band\, and release birds from the Nature Center property. You’ll get a chance to see the equipment he uses\, observe the banding process\, and learn about the importance of banding. You’ll also get an up-close look at the birds!\nChildren and families are welcome to join in on the fun. Banding is a weather-dependent activity.  \nThis program is free and open to the public; free will donations to the Nature Center are welcome. FREE  No registration required. \nAll banding\, marking\, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey’s BBL

DESCRIPTION:Make the most out of your child’s day off school!**\nSend them to the “Incredible Insects” In-Service Day Camp at ICNC. Join us to learn about the fascinating insects of Iowa! Where do insects live? What do they eat? How do they see? Why are insects important? We will answer these questions together as we explore Iowa’s incredible insects!  \nPlease send a sack lunch and snack and dress kids for indoor and outdoor play. This program is available for all K-5th grade students\, with a maximum of 10 students.  \n**Please check your school’s calendar to see if this is an in-service day for your child. \n9:00 AM-3:00 PM (drop off: 8:45-9AM\, pickup: 3-3:15PM) \nM $55; NM $75 \nPre-registration is required for this program.
