SUMMARY:Bird Banding at the Barn
DESCRIPTION:Join ornithologist Dr. Neil Bernstein for a special bird banding program. Be our guest and drop in at the back of Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd) anytime to watch Dr. Bernstein net\, band\, and release birds from Nature Center property. You’ll get a chance to see the equipment he uses\, observe the banding process\, and learn about the importance of banding. You’ll also get an up close look at the birds! Children and families are welcome to join in on the fun. Banding is a weather-dependent activity.\nWhile Dr. Bernstein is banding birds in back of the barn\, from 10AM-11AM\, Joan Schnabel\, local raptor educator\, will be bringing a couple of live\, injured\, raptors to the area in front of the barn for people to learn about.  Both programs are FREE with no registration required.  In the case of inclement weather\, this program will be canceled. Hike It Baby is a national non-profit organization that offers new parents an opportunity to connect and get into nature with their young children. Dress appropriately for the weather\, as we will be outdoors for the full hour. Baby carriers and all-terrain strollers are welcome\, but strollers are not suitable for all trails. SUMMARY:Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Lace up your hiking shoes and venture out at dusk to join a small group of adventurers for a guided night hike. The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon\, but you’ll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, just in case of cloud cover. Encounters with wildlife are sure to occur! Hikers should dress for the weather. Children are welcome\, including babies in carriers. (Strollers not recommended). Friendly dogs on leashes are also welcome. Fee: $5 Members $10 Nonmembers.\nPre-registration is required (and will end 24 hours before the start of the program). DESCRIPTION:Join ornithologist Dr. Neil Bernstein for a special bird banding program. Be our guest and drop in at Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd) anytime to watch Dr. Bernstein net\, band\, and release birds from Nature Center property. You’ll get a chance to see the equipment he uses\, observe the banding process\, and learn about the importance of banding. You’ll also get an up close look at the birds! Children and families are welcome to join in on the fun. Banding is a weather-dependent activity. This program is free and open to the public; free will donations to the Nature Center are welcome. SUMMARY:Golf Cart Tours
DESCRIPTION:See Indian Creek property in a whole new way!\nHave a seat in our quiet\, electric golf cart as we tour prairies east of the nature center in style. Other routes/stops on this one-hour journey will include a stop at the blue bridge\, peek inside the lower level of the old barn and drive through the sycamore and bluebird trails. We will provide the golf cart and the driver\, you provide up to five people interested in a relaxing drive through our property. \nA two hour option is also available. The two hour version will do all of the above and stop to view of the confluence of the Cedar River and Indian Creek\, two wetlands and an optional stop for a picnic lunch (please bring your own). \n$12/per person/per hour (minimum of 2 people) or $60/per hour for a private tour (up to 5 people). \nPre-registration is required for this program. DESCRIPTION:Make the most out of your child’s day off school! Send them to In-Service Day Camp at ICNC to meet some live “unhuggables”. Students will get to see and learn about animals that are often considered non-desirable. A live Turkey Vulture\, tarantulas (in enclosures)\, snake and other critters. Dress kids for indoor and outdoor play\, and as we will also explore and search for animals outdoors. Please send a sack lunch and snack. This program is available for all K-5th grade students\, with a maximum of 24 students.
