SUMMARY:Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Lace up your walking shoes to join a small group of adventurers for a guided night hike. The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon\, but you’ll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, just in case of cloud cover. Night hikers will explore some of our favorite spots on the property. Encounters with wildlife are sure to occur!\nHikers should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Children are welcome\, including babies in carriers. (Strollers not recommended). Friendly dogs on leashes are also welcome.  \nFee: $5 Members $10 Nonmembers  \nPre-registration is required by 3pm the day of the event and spots are limited. These hikes do fill\, and walk-ins will not be accepted if the program has reached capacity.

DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic information you need to raise hens in urban and suburban areas during class. Participants will receive a certificate of completion\, enabling them to get a permit to legally keep chickens in Cedar Rapids and other communities. ​This class is geared towards adults.  The purchaser must be present at the class to receive the certificate.\n$15 Members  $20 Nonmembers \nPre-registration is required and will remain open with no money taken at the door.  Upon arrival\, if not registered\, participant must scan a QR code with their own device to register and pay. If registration occurs the day of the event a certificate will not be recieved for up to 5 business days.

The presentation will be followed by an accessible birding event on the grounds at Indian Creek Nature Center\, combining movement along trails designed for access with opportunities for stationary birding. \nThe outing will take place rain or shine\, and we warmly welcome new birders\, long-time birders\, and everyone in between. \nThis event is designed with disabled birders and people with health concerns in mind\, and we invite participants to share any specific access needs so we can do our best to support a meaningful and enjoyable experience. You’ll get a chance to see the equipment he uses\, observe the banding process\, and learn about the importance of banding. You’ll also get an up close look at the birds!\nChildren and families are welcome to join in on the fun. Banding is a weather-dependent activity. This program is free and open to the public; free will donations to the Nature Center are welcome. SUMMARY:Willow Bases and Beyond - Part 2 (WAITLIST ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:Create beautiful and useful willow art in this Two-Part Introduction to Stake and Strand Basketmaking! \nApril 19 – Part 2:\nWeaving the sides\, rim\, and handles: Using a base from the March 15 class\, Participants will learn a variety of weaves utilized in stake and strand basketry\, such as the three-rod wale\, and French randing\, or slewing. Learning to complete a border and handles tops off the day\, and weavers will take home a handy basket for use in the home and garden. \nMaterials: A sharp carving knife\, sharp pruners. If you have them\, please bring a bodkin and basketry shears. The teacher will share hers if you do not. No need to purchase\, but if you are interested\, check this link. \nPlease bring your lunch\, snacks\, and beverages. Please bring an old sheet that we will soak\, wring out\, and store your willow in while you work. Wear old pants that can get stained. \nFee: $175 Non-members $160 Members. Pre-registration is required and closes March 6th. Space is limited. The second part of this class will be held on Sunday\, April 19th from 9 to 5pm. \nIn Part 1\, held on March 15\, teacher Mary Kopecky will lead participants as they make two or more basket bases and shapes. One of these bases will be used in the 2nd part of the class\, where we learn to weave the sides\, rim\, and handle(s). DESCRIPTION:The Fresh Air Academy at Indian Creek Nature Center is a drop-off immersive nature experience.  \nChildren will go on learning adventures with experienced ICNC educators. Educators will develop seasonally appropriate themes to guide the day\, but the children will determine the specifics of their time at the Nature Center. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. In the event of inclement weather the program will be held indoors at Amazing Space.
