One of these bases will be used in the 2nd part of the class\, where we learn to weave the sides\, rim\, and handle(s). Participants will learn to make a Catalan base and a traditional round base with spokes. \nParticipants should have good hand and finger strength. \nMaterials: Sharp pruners\, lunch\, snacks\, and beverages. DESCRIPTION:This full-day workshop explores the craft of nature and wildlife photography from macro to landscapes to wildlife behavior. Participants will learn how to see compositions more clearly\, understand what makes an image work\, and recognize common pitfalls. We will also look at how human nature influences our choices in post-processing and how to create images that remain authentic and compelling. The day includes both field time and classroom review\, making it a strong program for all skill levels.\nAbout the presenter: Donald Quintana is a professional nature and wildlife photographer\, conservation visual storyteller\, and educator based in Cedar Rapids. His work has been recognized by National Audubon and Nature’s Best Photography and has appeared in exhibits and publications nationwide. DESCRIPTION:Lace up your walking shoes to join a small group of adventurers for a guided night hike. The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon\, but you’ll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, just in case of cloud cover. Night hikers will explore some of our favorite spots on the property. Encounters with wildlife are sure to occur!\nHikers should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Children are welcome\, including babies in carriers. (Strollers not recommended). Friendly dogs on leashes are also welcome.  \nFee: $5 Members $10 Nonmembers  \nPre-registration is required by 3pm the day of the event and spots are limited. These hikes do fill\, and walk-ins will not be accepted if the program has reached capacity.

DESCRIPTION:The Fresh Air Academy at Indian Creek Nature Center is a drop-off immersive nature experience.  \nChildren will go on learning adventures with experienced ICNC educators. Educators will develop seasonally appropriate themes to guide the day\, but the children will determine the specifics of their time at the Nature Center. Children will spend ample time outdoors exploring and learning at the Nature Center’s 200-acre classroom.  \nSessions will be held on Tuesdays in April and May. \nDates: April 7\, 14\, 21\, 28 and May 5\, 12\, 19\, 26 (Tuesdays) \nDrop off / Pick up Times: 3:45-4:15 pm and 6:00-6:15 pm \n$160 Member\, $200 Non-Members \nPre-registration is required.

SUMMARY:IN PERSON Backyard Chickens
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic information you need to raise hens in urban and suburban areas during class. Participants will receive a certificate of completion\, enabling them to get a permit to legally keep chickens in Cedar Rapids and other communities. ​This class is geared towards adults.  The purchaser must be present at the class to receive the certificate.\n$15 Members  $20 Nonmembers \nPre-registration is required and will remain open with no money taken at the door.  Upon arrival\, if not registered\, participant must scan a QR code with their own device to register and pay. If registration occurs the day of the event a certificate will not be recieved for up to 5 business days.

DESCRIPTION:Join Birdability Executive Director Cat Fribley for a 45-minute presentation introducing Birdability and the growing movement to make birding more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities and other health concerns. \nThis talk will explore what accessible birding looks like in practice\, why access matters\, and how thoughtful design and community care can open the outdoors to more people. The presentation will be followed by an accessible birding event on the grounds at Indian Creek Nature Center\, combining movement along trails designed for access with opportunities for stationary birding. \nThe outing will take place rain or shine\, and we warmly welcome new birders\, long-time birders\, and everyone in between. \nThis event is designed with disabled birders and people with health concerns in mind\, and we invite participants to share any specific access needs so we can do our best to support a meaningful and enjoyable experience. Feel free to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy after the program. \nPre-registration strongly recommended; space is limited. $5/person

A template is provided so you can enjoy and focus on the watercolor paint!\nBring a positive attitude and be ready to learn a new skill. Supplies included in class fee: watercolor palette\, brush\, coldpress 140lb watercolor paper\, Peerless Transparent Watercolors sample pack\, as well as backing board and transparent sleeve to take finished work home*.
