Be our guest and drop in at Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd) anytime to watch Dr. Bernstein net\, band\, and release birds from Nature Center property. You’ll get a chance to see the equipment he uses\, observe the banding process\, and learn about the importance of banding. You’ll also get an up close look at the birds!\nChildren and families are welcome to join in on the fun. Banding is a weather-dependent activity. This program is free and open to the public; free will donations to the Nature Center are welcome. FREE \nAll banding\, marking\, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey.

DESCRIPTION:Create beautiful and useful willow art in this Two-Part Introduction to Stake and Strand Basketmaking! \nApril 19 – Part 2:\nWeaving the sides\, rim\, and handles: Using a base from the March 15 class\, Participants will learn a variety of weaves utilized in stake and strand basketry\, such as the three-rod wale\, and French randing\, or slewing. Learning to complete a border and handles tops off the day\, and weavers will take home a handy basket for use in the home and garden. \nMaterials: A sharp carving knife\, sharp pruners. If you have them\, please bring a bodkin and basketry shears. The teacher will share hers if you do not. No need to purchase\, but if you are interested\, check this link. \nPlease bring your lunch\, snacks\, and beverages. Please bring an old sheet that we will soak\, wring out\, and store your willow in while you work. Wear old pants that can get stained. \nFee: $175 Non-members $160 Members. Pre-registration is required and closes March 6th. Space is limited. The second part of this class will be held on Sunday\, April 19th from 9 to 5pm. \nIn Part 1\, held on March 15\, teacher Mary Kopecky will lead participants as they make two or more basket bases and shapes. One of these bases will be used in the 2nd part of the class\, where we learn to weave the sides\, rim\, and handle(s). DESCRIPTION:Hop aboard ICNC’s electric bus with other nature enthusiasts. Head to J Harold Ennis Preserve where ICNC staff will lead an evening stroll around the preserve pointing out and discussing several spring wildflowers.\nThe walking trail route does contain hills and will be a big circle around the preserve with an estimated total distance of just under one mile. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. In the event that ICNC needs to cancel due to inclement weather all registrants will be refunded. \nMeet at ICNC by 5:30 (bus leaving promptly at 5:40) or meet at J Harold Ennis Preserve for the hike beginning that begins at 6pm. \nPre-registration required. Space is limited. Registration closes at noon on the day of the event. $10 Nonmembers; $5 Members
