Join us on Indian Creek Nature Center’s beautiful campus for exciting workshops led by teacher-naturalists and tailored toward the advancement requirements for Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts! Our workshops, held throughout the school year, allow Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts to meet nature-based requirements for badges and Journeys (Girl Scouts) and adventures (Cub Scouts).
Individual scouts or groups can participate in one of our pre-scheduled workshops, or, for groups of 10 scouts or more from the same pack/troop, we will work with you to schedule your own private workshop time and date. You can select from any of the workshops we offer (listed at the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts links below). All workshops, both pre-scheduled or private, are capped at 20 scouts.
For additional information on any of our scouting programs, please call the Nature Center at 319-362-0664 during business hours.
Scouts can also earn higher achievements through conservation projects, such as Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for Girl Scouts and Eagle Scout Awards for Boy Scouts. Contact us for more information on these special outdoor projects. We also offer a special informational session on Eagle Scout project opportunities to learn more and get the process started.
Additional activities for your troop or pack:
Sac and Fox Trail Patch
Earn a special patch by hiking or rehiking the Sac and Fox Trail while using an interpretive booklet on the natural flora and fauna of the area. Booklets and patches available at ICNC. Patches cost $2.50 each.
Maple Syruping Programs
Groups may visit the Nature Center during the month of March to learn the history of syruping, the physiology of a tree, how to identify maples and much more. Experience tapping a tree, gathering and boiling sap and tasting delicious maple syrup! Reservations are required for this one hour program. The fee is $4/person with a $40 minimum. Call for available dates and times.
If your troop or pack is unable to attend the scheduled workshops, your group may sign up for its own workshop as long as you can guarantee a group of ten Scouts or more (subject to the availability of staff). Call 319-362-0664 for more information.
Scout Rules and Registration Policy
Please read carefully prior to registering.
NO RAIN-OUTS: All programs can be adapted to indoor workshops if necessary. Dress appropriately for the weather.
Only registered Scouts may attend workshops. Scout leaders are admitted for free; all parents/chaperones must pay $5 per person. The Nature Center does not require parents to attend – you may drop off your child even if registering them on your own (not with their pack/troop).
Registration and payment are required prior to the event. Scout leaders and assistant leaders should make every effort to register their Scouts as a group. Payment must be received and Scout Registration Form and Roster sheet submitted via mail or email to the Nature Center by Thursday the week prior to the workshop (at least nine days in advance).
Refunds & Cancellation Policy
An administrative fee of 25% is charged for all cancelled registrations. The remainder of the program fee is refunded, provided that the cancellation notice is received at least five business days in advance of that program. Full refunds are given for any program Indian Creek Nature Center cancels, or for sickness, medical emergencies, or a death in the family.
